Essential Oils

Are you a therapist with a healing practice such as massage, Healing Touch, reiki or another?  Do you wish to use essential oils in your practice but wonder if you are using them correctly?  Or, are you a business owner who wishes to create an uplifting mood in your setting but not sure which oil to use?

Aromatherapy has become a popular tool to use in a variety of settings.  However, there is a science to using essential oils and not all oils are created equally.  Quality is a huge factor even if you are just diffusing in your office or home.  In a video on Essential Oil Quality, I discuss factors to consider. The biggest factor would be to know your source – what farm, harvest and distillation practices were done plus more.

Once you have identified genuine quality oils, look at best practice for you and your setting.

If you have an office, you may wish to have a diffuser for the room to set a certain mood like bergamot for renewal or lavender to calm.  Consider a USB diffuser for you to give you what you need – such as peppermint oil for energy or orange oil for relaxation.

As a practitioner, you may wish to use genuine quality essential oils to enhance the effect of your therapy.  For example, add 10 drops of your client’s favorite essential oil or oils into 2 ounces of your massage lotion.  Some favorite oils include Copaiba, Wintergreen or Lemongrass.  Use this oil combination to massage over specific areas of soreness or concern.

Energy therapists may wish to place a few drops of a client’s favorite essential oil onto your hands and perhaps place the oil on the client’s hands and/or feet before you begin a session.  You may wish to take the oil on your hands and brush down their energy field to assist to clear and balance.  Examples of essential oils to include are Frankincense, Lemon, or Rose.
