Overthinking Can Hurt Your Sales Efforts

If you’ve ever found yourself not attending an event, not following up with someone, or talking too much, you might be an overthinker. Have no fear! We’re going to tackle it together.

Truthfully, do you find yourself agonizing over what to say or where to go? Do you find reasons NOT to call someone? Is email your best friend? How’s your growth? I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t much! That’s because you aren’t doing the things that are necessary to gain business. You’re too busy thinking of reasons NOT to do things. That, my friend, is overthinking.

And it’s working against you. So, stop it! Keep things as simple as ABC.

A – Attend

Attend events with a goal of learning something. Period. Don’t think about selling, or even talking about what you do. Instead, think about something you can ask someone – something you are interested in knowing about them.

Examples include:

How did you get into your field? What’s your favorite thing about what you do? What was the last good book you read (or movie you saw)?

B – Become

Become comfortable with calling instead of emailing. Email is easy but often ineffective. It feels safe. However, it’s too easy to ignore or delete. It’s sort of non-threatening. If it isn’t getting you results, pick up the phone. Decide what you want to achieve and then dial. It’s only a conversation. The worst thing that could happen is they say ‘no.’ Guess what?

That’s not a bad thing!

C – Connect

Connect with others by talking less and listening more. If you avoid events because you aren’t comfortable talking about yourself, great! Go anyway. Don’t talk about you; learn about them.

If your sales appointments aren’t bringing you business, you may be talking too much. Ask questions, listen and then connect your solution to what you heard.

Easy, right? Right! Don’t overthink it. keep it simple. If you’d like help creating your own plan, contact me at diane@seizethisday.co. and remember to seize THIS day.
