Get Out Of Your Head and Get Dressed!

Before you left the house today, did you stand in front of your mirror and say, “Wow, you look great!”

Chances are your morning went something more like “I don’t have anything to wear!”, “Am I too old for this?” or “Does this color make me look washed out or fat?”  Maybe after putting on three different tops you settled on one and thought to yourself, “this will do.”

You are not alone, and these thoughts could be signs that it’s time for a closet cleanout.  You need a wardrobe that allows you to show up with style and confidence as well as grace and ease.  If you’re like most women, you may begin feeling overwhelmed about where to start.

Feeling confident and comfortable starts with stopping the negative self-talk in your head!  Have you considered that perhaps you are more critical of yourself than anyone else would be?  If you are not where you want to be, don’t criticize.  Instead accept that you are a work in progress and plant the seeds of confidence.  Tell yourself you are growing to the best version of you every day and making better choices for yourself.

Next, take a minute and have a cup of coffee with yourself and make some notes.  What is happening in your life right now? Think about the things you do, the places you go and how you need to dress for them.  Look at where you spend the majority of your time. Describe your style.  Are you a fun fashionista, a naturalist, unique and creative or conservative and classy?  (If you don’t know, take my LifeStyle™ Quiz.)

Your closet cleanout can be done in small steps.  First, if there are pieces in your wardrobe that don’t fit, are worn or just make you feel frumpy when you put them on, remove from your closet and donate them!

Next focus on one season at a time. Create a capsule by choosing pieces that work together in your style and your best colors. When you have a few pieces that are interchangeable, your combinations grow with just a few pieces. Start with classic styled top and bottom in your neutral colors as your base and build off of those.

And finally create a list of the items and their color that you need to add and then go shop on purpose! Start this new decade on purpose with confidence!
