Cancer Survivors Benefit from Supportive Therapies

It’s not surprising that many cancer survivors turn to complementary therapies to help manage their symptoms and gain a sense of well-being and balance in their life.

Many people with a cancer diagnosis and going through cancer treatment can experience side effects and adverse symptoms not only during treatment, but also well after treatment has concluded.

Fatigue, sleep disturbances, pain, and depression are all symptoms that can persist, even years after treatment. So, it’s not surprising that many cancer survivors turn to complementary therapies to help manage their symptoms and gain a sense of well–being and balance in their life.

Many healthcare organizations are including holistic therapies as part of their offerings for patients. Recently, several national regulating agencies are promoting that health care organizations begin to incorporate non-pharmacological interventions for conditions like pain management, anxiety, and other health–related concerns. Healthcare organizations are searching for modalities that are evidence-based and can meet these concerns.

Evidence shows exercise, relaxation, and meditation can reduce pain and improve function and quality of life. These modalities and more are shared in my Supportive Therapy Engagement Program or S.T.E.P. Therapies are organized under three categories – Relaxation Techniques, Aromatherapy, and Gentle Movement.

Relaxation Techniques such as breath work and visualization can offer a quick remedy for peace.

Aromatherapy like inhalation of an essential oil on a tissue or in an inhaler may give comfort quickly.

Gentle movement releases Feel-Good hormones giving flexibility and easing pain

Each of the above categories have examples that can be helpful for pain relief. Each modality may be beneficial by itself. However, when you combine 1, 2, or 3 modalities, you create a synergy and can amp up the benefit of comfort and balance quicker.

For more information on these modalities and how to use in your life and practice, check out my free 3 part video series, Calm Your Chaos in 5 minutes or less at the link below.
