Dancing the Chakras

Dance and movement are natural to the universe. Plants move to the sun.  Animals have movements for strength or attraction. In the same way, our bodies are designed to move. Let’s take a look at simple chakra movements that can bring balance and overall health and well-being for you.

When viewing the inner makeup of the human body, you see how it is designed for movement.  And, like breathing, movement fills us with energy.  It balances, heals and awakens the energies and this includes our energy centers or chakras.

The integration of essential oils in a movement practice can enhance the health benefits and may provide more energy and support. For information about which essential oils to use with which chakras, go watch my video, Dancing the Chakras with Essential Oils.

So, let’s review each of the chakras or energy centers and movements that may be used to bring balance and renewal to the whole system.

We begin with the Root Center, located at the base of the body and governs the legs, feet and adrenals.  One example is to move your feet – heel pop, duck walk,  rock around the clock.

Movements for the Sacral Center, which is located below the navel, includes hip bumps, hip circles plus more.  These are great to keep strength and flexibility in the lower back.

The Solar Plexus lies at the lower end of the rib cage.  This correlates with the area of digestion.  Practice a chewing motion with your upper ab muscles.  Like a mouth or an eye opening and closing.  This is great core work!

The Heart Center located in the middle of the chest governs the chest area, shoulders and arms.  So opening up the front of the chest with the arms reaching back and then giving yourself a hug with the chin tucked opens up the back of the heart center.  It is a nice stretch is areas where many of us hold tension.

The Throat Center at the base of the neck can be stimulated with head movements like yes, no, and chin to shoulder rotations.

The Brow Center is in the middle of the forehead and we can use hand and eye movements to activate this center.

The Crown Center is located at the top of the head.   Do a tapping or head massage to stimulate this center.
