Sound Healing – The Medicine of the Future

Sound healing has been identified as the medicine of the future.

Every cell in your body is a sound resonator.  It is reported that ancient languages were based upon spoken syllables that contained a vibratory quality which correlated with healing.  Edgar Cayce, the 20th century mystic, predicted that sound would be the medicine of the future. Hildegard of Bingen was a Christian mystic and nun in the middle ages who wrote about many healing practices which we would consider complementary therapies. Hildegard wrote music but she did this as single notes so that one would use their voice tones causing a vibration within the body bringing balance and peace.

Many cultures have correlated color and sound to different areas of the body which are called chakras or energy centers. Each chakra is said to resonate with a different note and sound.  There are specific sounds used by different cultures. We will focus on the vowel sounds which are more familiar to Westernized cultures. Leah Garfield said, “toning is a system of healing that utilizes vowel sounds to alter vibrations in every molecule and cell in the body.”

As you sound or tone with your voice, pitch does not matter only the sound.  Notice the vibration you create and the feeling within you.  Begin this practice by focusing on your heart chakra or heart center.

It’s referred to as the bridge chakra because it is the connector between the lower or physical chakras and the upper or spiritual chakras.

The heart chakra/center is located in the middle of your chest and governs the chest area, upper back, shoulders, and arms.  The musical note is F and the sound or tone is Ah like in Father.  It is interesting that many religions use this sound in words such as Amen, Allah, Buddah, Jehovah, and Our Father.

So, let’s practice a self-care healing for your heart balance. Place your hands on your heart center in the middle of your chest.  Take a breath in and exhale with the Ahhhhh.

This chakra governs your immune system. So, if you wish to add immune stimulation, then add a gentle tapping with your slow inhale and your slow exhale with Ahhhh.

When you are under stress, you may notice more shallow breathing and maybe chest and shoulder tightness. This heart balance with sound can bring healing and peace to your system.  For more information on quick self-care techniques, check out my website at www.debrareis.com
