Although people often begin yoga and meditation for flexibility or body and mind, other benefits including sleeping better, calming down, working through emotional turmoil and helping the body and mind to yoke and function better. Yoga is a large toolbox of options to help your body and mind to come into harmony. We are so much more than just our bodies and the material world. When we awaken to this awareness, our capacity and opportunity to lighten our mind, heart and spirit is abundant.
Meditation is also a valuable tool. It shows a positive connection to increasing regional brain gray matter density. This is a very big deal, and has been talked about since the vedas, over 5000 years ago.
Mindfulness meditation is a practice that focuses attention on breathing to develop awareness of the present moment. It can result in incredible and measurable changes within the brain. That’s right – so for everyone that needs science to back up their practices, here you go!

In a research study involving a Massachusetts Hospital, Medical School and Germany, images from meditation show gray matter concentration in the left hippocampus. Gray matter also increased in four other brain regions.
