Ready, Set, Hike...The NFL Goes All In With The Cloud!

The start of the NFL season is now upon us and football fans couldn’t be more excited! But wait… There’s one HUGE change for football fans as they go through their typical Sunday routine from September to January. What’s that change? The National Football League is all in with the Cloud!

Not only is everything on the sidebars powered by cloud technologies, just look around during any game… Officials are using the Microsoft Surface Pro directly connected to the Cloud to collaborate with other officials in New York City. This allows them to review touchdowns, challenges, and more. They’re able to watch instant replays, dispute calls made on the field, question overturns – just about everything required can be done within a few clicks, all thanks to modern technology!

Essentially, this removes the need for individual staff at each stadium. Cloud technology doesn’t replace the need for on-field officials but compliments the work they do and verifies that their calls are correct. Naturally, this is a win-win for the officials, players, and football fans everywhere.

One other huge change with the NFL this year is mobile ticketing. Everyone has a smartphone now, and the NFL has done away with paper tickets. (Now, before I get nasty emails stating that not everyone has a smartphone, I think the NFL has done their research and wouldn’t jump into paperless tickets without making sure that this was the right thing to do!)

Of course, paperless tickets are powered by apps than run where?… In the Cloud! Incredible, isn’t it? You can save time and rest assured knowing it’s an increased security measure that makes the game safer for everyone. The Cloud helps the NFL and their teams cut down on added expenses such as printing paper tickets, counterfeiting, and more.

The NFL, Cloud, and Security…

One thing that hasn’t changed is the security at the stadiums around the league. However, cybersecurity has been greatly enhanced for the NFL. There are many things us football fans can’t see when it comes to attending our favorite team’s home game, but there are many behind the scene changes. We can say with 100% certainty that cloud technologies play a huge role.

One last, security-focused advantage of paperless tickets is the changing barcode technologies. The workers scanning tickets at the gate can use multi-factor technologies to ensure that the ticket you hold is authentic. Cloud technologies bring a lot of benefits to the NFL, and fortunately, security is one of them.

We’re sure this investment in cloud and security wasn’t inexpensive. However, we’re confident that the investment in cybersecurity solutions and the Cloud will have huge cost-saving advantages for many years to come. Now let’s just hope some of those cost-saving advantages are passed down to football fans, am I right?
