I Don’t Have Anything To Wear

Do you stand in front of a full closet saying, “I don’t have anything to wear!”  Your image matters not because of what others think but because of how it makes you feel!

What hidden costs are lingering in your closet?  Every piece of clothing should be one that you absolutely love, is it?  I’m talking about your “go to” pieces for everyday life.  Do you look in the mirror and say, “oh, it will do,” and rush out the door?  Are you settling for less and allowing your wardrobe to cost you time, negative energy, frustration, disappointment, or even advancement and opportunities?  If you are not feeling fabulous with every piece of clothing, then it’s time to reassess your closet and stop settling for less! You deserve to feel great every time you get dressed regardless of your current shape, size or lifestyle!  You can have fast, easy, comfortable and spectacular without spending a fortune.

Planning a successful wardrobe is as important as planning your day, week or any important project or event. The changing seasons are a great time to reassess what’s hiding in your closet!  Like everything worthwhile, there is a small investment of time with huge payoffs!   Imagine the ease of going to your closet and choosing without negativity and frustration.

How we dress is important, because it affects our attitude and our results.  It’s called enclothed cognition. A natural occurrence in the human mind that attributes meaning to clothing. This meaning is a part of our subconscious blueprint and has a psychological impact not only for the person wearing it but has influence on others as well.  When your thoughts about how you feel are positive, you have the power to shift your focus from what is not working to what is working!  Comfort, beauty, and ease can coexist in your wardrobe!  That doesn’t mean you need to throw everything out and start over!  You just need to decide what pieces are working and build off of those.  Here are three easy steps to get you started.

First, decide how you want to feel.  Beautiful, confident, comfortable, professional, or classy, which do you want?  As you pull out those seasonal clothes, do a closet assessment.  You might need to try it on again and complete this statement.  When I put this on, I feel _____.  Fill in the blank, is it frumpy, fabulous, or something else?  Does it align with how you want to feel? Hold out for what makes you feel great!   Be willing to pass up good for great and let go of “it’s okay”.

Second, don’t put conditions on yourself or clothes.  Believe you can have great no matter where you are now, and you will.  You deserve it now!  Don’t wait for ‘someday’ it’s not a day of the week!

Lastly, embrace the learning curve.  Celebrate who you are, not who you think you should be! Show yourself some grace and change how you feel about what you’re wearing every day!  Invest the time and free yourself to focus on what really matters.
