This week I opened The Washburn Center at Blueberry Hill, a special place for my business and for companies to rent for their off-site meetings. The past few days I have been reflecting on the journey. It has been a long one. Truthfully, it has been a bit of a nightmare. Unseasonable wet and cold weather held things up for months; I went through 2 contractors who had taken on more than they could reasonably handle and left me high and dry. A project that should have taken 3 months has taken 10! Although nearly everything that could go wrong did, one thing kept me from just giving up and changing courses:
I had a crystal clear vision of exactly what it would look like and the contribution it was going to be to my business and those businesses that were looking for a special place to hold their off-site meetings at Lake Erie Shores and Islands. It has red siding with white shutters and a welcoming covered entry. The floors are a dark wood type vinyl which contrast with white walls that showcase bold art work, all primary colors. The lighting includes chandeliers made from the wheels of my Father’s antique seed driller. The “Board Room” is separated from “The Training Room” by a set of custom made sliding barn doors repurposed from a local old barn. A piece of my Mother’s furniture has been transformed into the bathroom vanity and the mirror above it sits in a custom wood frame carved by my cousin that is a truly piece of art.
This is what kept me going- my clear vision for a center that inspired creativity and critical thinking in all that entered it.
