The purpose of coach training programs is to provide newbie coaches with the skill sets they need to be excellent Coaches. However, they usually don’t teach you how to sell.
After I graduated and was certified as a coach, I knew I would need to have some sales experience if I was going to be a successful business owner. I hired a Sales Coach who taught me that sales is simply the transfer of an idea, a concept, a vision, a service, a product, that you are excited about, that you share with someone else. That definition helped me to relax and see that selling is really an opportunity to contribute to others.
Here’s a great story about a seller that changed the world. Who was that? Mother Teresa! She is my personal inspiration for selling. She had a vision, based on authentic personal values, and overcame everything in the way of realizing that vision. She discovered how to energize her resources and speak effectively to people about giving her money to help the poor.
She saw everyone she contacted as the Christ and she kept going until she got the result she desired. Her actions exemplify compassion, combined with clarity and commitment in service to others – a Spiritual Practice.
What if Mother Teresa had just sympathized with the poor of Calcuta? What if she felt very sad for them but rejected any real action because the scope of the problem was so large. Instead Mother Teresa became a force of nature. She sold her vision, raised a great deal of money and made the world a better place because she was in it.
Here’s my tip. You can do those same things, on as large a scale as you please. Go make that happen.
