Are You A DIY Type of Person?

Are you a DIY kind of person?  I have always been strong-willed, do-it-yourself kind of person.  Especially when it comes to saving money.  I mean, who doesn’t like a savings! I guess it started when I was young, learning much from my father who was a jack-of-all trades, master of many.

Recently, my husband and I took on a major challenge, our roof!   Yes, you heard right, our 33 year-old shingles needed replaced.  Not being roofers, we didn’t think we would be actually doing it alone (that’s a story for another time).  I do have a new-found appreciation for the trade.  After more time than we thought, with more struggles than we thought between the record rainfall and summer heat, we did complete it.  Yes, there is a satisfaction and pride that we accomplished it and we learned much while boosting our confidence to tackle anything we choose. But what about the opportunity cost of using our time this way?

You see, often we can either save time or we can save money, but not always both. This applies to our wardrobes and image as well. Some women try to enhance their wardrobe by randomly buying new trends, that don’t necessarily work into their existing wardrobe. While others try their own closet makeovers, reorganizing their closet only to find themselves even more frustrated.  Some get depressed listening to the internal dialogue as they sort through their collection of pieces and don’t get very far.

The truth is that if we want to elevate our presence, we need to build confidence. To boost our confidence, we need to pay attention to how we dress.  Not just how we dress for the office, for that special occasion, or client meetings, but our overall wardrobe.  How we dress has an emotional impact!  This is why dressing for your LIFEStyle™ energy is so important. Remember that awkward feeling the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something for the first time?  That same feeling happens when we put on something that doesn’t align with our innate natural style and energy.

I would love to help save you time and frustration, but for those of you who want to do it yourself, here are three simple tips to get you started.

  1. Choose your color palette and get the most out of your wardrobe by selecting pieces that are interchangeable.
  2. Focus on your assets and turn off the negative internal dialogue.
  3. Pay attention to how what your wearing affects your energy and the way you feel. Trust your intuition and choose great over good.
