On-Premise Servers Are Dying Almost as Fast as MSPs That Can’t Move to the Cloud K odak. Blockbuster. IBM. Each of these companies once dominated their market but failed to innovate to keep up with the challenges of digital transformation, significantly limiting their market share. On-premise servers are also seeing significantly reduced popularity, being replaced with cloud-based servers that deliver better uptime with superior pricing. Is it any wonder, as our world passes through digital transformation, that MSPs are facing similar challenges? The On-Premise Server When mainframe computers began to give way to terminals and central servers, businesses were able to drastically improve the availability of computing power for their employees. Instead of having to submit a job and wait until the mainframe had finally gotten around to processing it, employees couldeitherprocess jobs on their local terminal or submit it to the server. The on-premise server was revolutionary for the time, but as the internet has advanced, so has technology and networking. On-premise servers are being left in the past as the move to cloud- based servers and software grows exponentially with digital transformation. The Importance of Innovation If your MSP service can’t offer cloud solutions for your clients, your company will fade away as your competition takes over your current market share. Cloud solutions became much more popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, and with many employees choosing to continue working fromhome, we can expect these types of solutions to remain more popular and grow over time.
