I was just at the NAWBO Board Retreat where someone mentioned selling encyclope- dias when they were young. When I was a kid, we had a set …The World Book…you could find anything you needed to know for research papers and schoolwork. Now…voila…it’s on our phones. But even better, the phone has information about our businesses, too. When we were traveling in January and February, it was so easy to Google: best restaurant for lunch in Sante Fe or wherever we were and then look at the suggestions, read the reviews and make our selection. We never went wrong. YUM!! We ate at some great places…inside, with lots of people around us…seems like so long ago. But reviews are not just for restaurants. If someone refers a person to you, that person is likely to look you up before they reach out. What will they find on your Google listing or LinkedIn profile? During this time, when many small business owners are wondering what’s going to happen to their business, be proactive. Cultivate a success mindset. Nothing gets a person out of fear faster than taking inspired action and here’s something that you can do that won’t cost you anything: Call some of your clients and people you do business with, offer to do a Google or LinkedIn review for them and ask them to write one for you and then send off the links to make it easy for each of you. You’ll see that, with all the social distancing that’s happening right now, they’ll be happy to hear from you, to have a chance to chat with an enthusiastic person and will probably feel good that there is something that they can do to help you at this particular time. Be intentional in your marketing, keep your energy high and positive…knowing that this will pass. eventually.
