PAT ALTVATER Do You Act on Your Inner Promptings? Have you heard the saying that “Every blade of grass has an angel bending over it whispering, grow, grow!” Unfortunately, most of us hear a persistent whisper that is a bit less compassionate. In psychology it’s called “the critic,” that punitive voice within that keeps us feeling inadequate. If you close your eyes and think about a BIG dream of yours, you might hear it now. “You’re not smart enough. You’re not special enough. What makes you think you can do that! 'LGQ ڕ W WKRVH VKRUWV ߑ W ORRVHU ODVW VXPPHU""" ڙ Experts say that a full 70 – 80% of our thoughts are negative. Many of us end up as our own worst critic, with constant negative self-talk going on in our heads. We grow into adults that are not aware of our true nature, our real identity. Keep in mind, too, that our criticisms of others always UH ߒ HFW KRZZH IHHO DERXW RXUVHOYHV 7KRVH MXGJPHQWV mask our own fears that we don’t measure up and W\SLFDOO\ ZKDW ZH MXGJH LQ RWKHUV LV ZKDW ZH GRQ ڕ W like about ourselves and haven’t had the courage to admit! :KHQ ZH UHOHDVH RXU ߑ UPO\ KHOG IDOVH LGHDV DQG limiting beliefs about who and what we are, we experience a tremendous relief of clarity – relief because we discover we are not the unworthy, undeserving person we thought we were. When we OHW JR RI QHJDWLYH VHOI WDON DQG FULWLFDO MXGJPHQWV DQG allow self-acceptance and love, we feel lighter! It’s then that we begin to hear our inner voice and promptings.
